The Septenniel Grand Elkandu Magic Competition is an event that takes place every seven years, hosted by Shazmar, in an arena adjacent to Torn Elkandu. There have been eight of them to date. Flyers are sent out across the universe, inviting mages from all over to come and compete for glory and wishes. Each major event granted a greater wish to the winner, while each minor even granted a lesser wish. Combat in the arena is to the death but ultimately non-lethal, since the competition is being run by a god who prevents anyone from actually dying in the stadium area. Competitors bodies are reformed outside the arena when their event is over, whole and undamaged.
While the events themselves and the rewards thereof are a big draw for people, it's probably more notable the antics that occur in the stadium while the competition is running. Mages from around the multiverse who rarely get a chance to interact with one another all clustered into a small area, without the risk of actually killing one another that normally precludes such interactions.
